A seemingly scripted crime thriller unfolded in Sonarpur when a jewellery shop owner orchestrated a fake robbery in his shop to secure insurance money. The incident occurred today late at night at Bakul Jewellers in the Baikunthapur area. The shop owner, Raju Rai, initially reported a robbery, claiming two miscreants on a bike looted gold jewellery and cash.

Upon investigation by the Baraipur police district, discrepancies emerged in Raju Rai's statement, leading to a shocking revelation. It was uncovered that the alleged robbery was a premeditated act aimed at generating funds from insurance due to financial debts.

Additionally, a local girl, who had given the shopkeeper Rs 3 lakh 54 thousand a year ago, filed a complaint against Raju Rai, accusing him of not returning her jewellery and avoiding communication.
